Overview
A highway design engineer is required by a successful and profitable main contractor. They have major highway and infrastructure work underway throughout the UK. As a member of their design division you will work alongside a highly capable multi-discipline team that provides engineering expertise for major transportation and building projects. They are looking for a chartered civil engineer (MICE) or chartered highways engineer (MIHT). An experienced engineer who is on the verge of becoming chartered would also be considered.
Your first project will be a major motorway capacity upgrade for Highways England. This will include; the design of a new lane, earthworks design, provision of low noise surfacing, new emergency areas to provide to accommodate broken down vehicles, replacement of the central reservation with a new rigid concrete barrier and overhead gantries. You will prepare design specifications to DMRB specification, liaise with Highways England and Environment agency and ensure quality standards are adhered to. The ability to forge productive working relationships with in-house colleagues and external stakeholders is essential. You will need good teamworking skills and be capable of guiding junior engineers and technicians.
