An opportunity for a  geotechnical  engineer to apply his/her  in the intriguing, forensic investigations sector. Our client is highly respected, they are a  leading international player with experts drawn from the civil, structural, geotechnical, construction, materials science, automotive, fire, manufacturing, environmental and energy sectors. They have a very strong capability within the built environment and an international caseload that covers buildings, bridges, rail, tunnels, highways, development infrastructure, industrial facilities, ports & harbours, renewables and much more.

The Company: A global leader in forensic investigations for the built environment. They are typically engaged by legal firms, insurers, loss adjusters, government agencies and client organisations. They will discover the root cause of a failure or defect, their findings are regularly used to settle litigation cases. The company is admired as an employer, terms and conditions of employment are generous and investment in staff is high. They work in a high margin sector providing constant demand throughout economic cycles.

Your Profile: A geotechnical engineer with at least six years consulting engineering experience. You should hold an MSc in geotechnical engineering or soil mechanics. It would be advantageous that you are either chartered, or have plans to become chartered. You should have a good academic background and be technically focused. Good lateral thinking and deductive reasoning skills are essential.

Your Role: You will be investigating the cause and origin of geotechnical / ground engineering defects, through to catastrophic failures. During initial site investigations you will typically oversee field testing, gather photographic evidence and interview witnesses. You will then go on to unravel the cause of the failure and  prepare a report detailing your findings. Your work will be used to resolve legal disputes, claims and to improve standards in the UK and internationally.

Forensic investigations work is broad, however, you will only be assigned work within  your knowledge area where your technical expertise can be safely applied. You will also have good in-house technical support. You will work on projects in the UK, and overseas in conjunction with their international offices. Occasional overseas travel may be required.

Remuneration:  The base salary and benefits package is generous. It is worth emphasising that the profit share component provides significant additional remuneration as a percentage of fee income.
