An opportunity to apply your mechanical engineering expertise within the insurance sector. This is a role with a leading player, focused on high value, international power projects. Our client is looking for a mechanical engineer and industry insider who wants a new career offering variety, advancement and a meaningful change of direction.
The Company: A leading, independently owned risk engineering specialist with a global presence. They work closely with many of the world’s major insurers and brokers.
Profile Required: Chartered through the IMechE, Engineers Ireland or an equivalent body. A background working in design, commissioning , construction or project management. This should have included exposure to power generation projects. Good lateral thinking, client facing and communications skills are essential.
Your Role: You will be providing advice on the risks associated with complex energy projects. These will typically include wind and solar schemes, battery storage, combined cycle gas turbine facilities, waste to energy plants and hydroelectric projects. You will provide practical real world insight, including front end advice to underwriters and risk managers and then monitor the progress of insured projects underway. The key areas you will scrutinise can be broken down into; Management -weighing up the track record and capabilities of a projects’ management team and their approach to risk. Technical- the design standards that have been adopted, methods of construction and the materials and plant being used. Environment- the location of the project, natural perils, political, cultural and security situation. Programme & Budget- Identify high risk phases of work, viability of construction sequencing and comparisons with similar projects.
