Overview

Our client, a major European insurer, has an opportunity for a civil engineer with technical and site based insight to advise on complex civil engineering risks. Their London office has a construction book of around one hundred projects encompassing conventional and  renewable energy, civil infrastructure, industrial and buildings. Working alongside a team of  underwriters, your  role will be to provide technical/ construction expertise focused on complex high value international projects. From your base in the City of London, there will be the requirement to make regular overseas visits. Live projects are usually visited twice during the construction period to identify what risk management improvements can be made, and to report on progress. Typically, this amounts to one or two visits per month. You will be working in a modern, highly resourced environment in a team with a strong culture of co-operation.

Duties: Conducting technical reviews and advising underwriters in London and overseas offices, providing technical input on claims and loss adjusters reports to identify areas for claims mitigation,  and areas where lessons can be learnt. Participation in new and renewal business development.

Your Profile: A chartered civil engineer with a consulting or contracting background. This should include some exposure to heavy civil or industrial projects, and experience of working with an insurer or risk consultancy. You should have held positions at senior engineer, site manager, project manager level, or equivalent, and have site based experience and technical insight. An accomplished communicator with good interpersonal skills. You should be capable of conveying complex information to non-technical colleagues, especially underwriters and clients.
