An opportunity for a senior geotechnical engineer to work within the forensic investigations field.  Our client is a markedly different employer,  for a geotechnical professional  working within mainstream consulting, this position offers change, prospects and financial rewards that are hard to match. Their workload is international with a focus on ports & harbours, rail, energy, highways, industrial facilities and buildings. As the “Principal Geotechnical Expert”  you will  report to, and work alongside a  senior director, a chartered civil engineer who is the divisional manager. You will use your engineering, lateral thinking and deductive reasoning abilities to identify the root cause of failures, and in some cases may be called upon to present expert witness statements. You will be joining a division set for expansion for a business that has a very strong financial position. The role is varied,  intriguing and  provides the ideal conditions for career advancement.

Company Overview: A privately owned consultancy with a turnover in excess of £5 billion. Likely to be a new name to those working in the consulting sector, this much admired firm is one of the world’s most successful and profitable  management consultancies, it has a formidable global reputation for working on claims, disputes and investigations. Their work in the construction sector, and a long established reputation amongst the legal profession, is driving growth within their London based forensic investigations division. This specialist part of their business is in strong demand, and its head count will grow significantly over the next twelve months. The company as a whole employs in excess of ten thousand staff globally, just over a thousand of whom are based in their London office.

Remuneration: The company is a generous employer and comfortably in the upper decile for remuneration when compared against the consulting engineering profession. Their comprehensive remuneration package includes quarterly bonuses, plus a generous share of fee income.

Profile Required: A chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers ( or chartered through Engineers Europe, Engineers Ireland or an equivalent). Degree qualified, ideally with an MSc or PhD  in geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, geophysics or engineering geology.

You will need to be an experienced geotechnical engineer with a consulting engineering background who has maintained a strong technical focus, your experience should preferably encompass  design, ground investigation, assessment and  remediation. You will already be working at senior, principal, associate or director level, and have project experience that includes major infrastructure schemes, such as rail, ports, highways airports, industrial etc. Some experience as an expert witness / assisting with witness statements would be advantageous.
