A structural engineer is required by a leading international forensic consultancy to join their international team of engineers and scientists. This is an opportunity to apply your existing consulting engineering expertise in a new and well rewarded sector. It is an intriguing career where you will unravel the root cause of structural engineering problems ranging from defects to complete catastrophic failure.  The position offers a varied work in a consistent sector commanding high fee margins. The Company: A European, employee owned company that has been established for over forty years. They are leaders in forensic investigations for the built environment, their knowledge is provided by engineers and   scientists drawn from industry who are experts in their chosen professions. The Hong Kong office investigates and determines the causes of failures and damage for insurers, loss adjusters, legal firms, police, fire brigades and other official bodies throughout China and South East Asia. Their civil & structural engineering work is broad including roads, bridges, buildings, temporary works, port & harbours, industrial, tunnels, retaining structures and foundations. They are long established in the region, and a market leader that is steadily expanding.

Profile Required: Five or more years structural engineering design  experience in building structures or civil engineering structures. You should have a degree in civil or structural engineering and be chartered – or approaching chartered status – with the HKIE, ICE, IStructE or an equivalent body. They are looking for a talented structural engineer, with excellent technical and lateral thinking skills who is a good communicator.

Your Role: Using your accumulated engineering knowledge to investigate  and establish the cause of failures that have affected building structures and civil engineering structures. You will carry out a survey of the physical after effects of a failure, gather evidence and analyse  engineering drawings, in some cases you will take witness statements, examine construction methods and have materials laboratory analysed. When required you will obtain specialist technical advice from in-house and external experts.  There will be occasional short visits throughout Hong Kong  and South East Asia to carry out site investigations. Training and mentoring will ensure you become proficient with forensic investigation processes and techniques and how to present your findings.
