Overview
A chartered civil (MICE) or structural (MIStructE) engineer with strong structural design engineering experience is required by a leading forensic engineering practice. This is an opportunity to apply your existing expertise in a well rewarded profession, it offers variety, flexibility and progression. It is a sector with consistent and stable work throughout the construction industry’s economic cycles. They have a long established civil and structural capability and a growing national and international workload.
You will be investigating and establishing the root cause of structural failures effecting bridges, ports & harbours, buildings, industrial facilities, highways and railways. This work will cover superstructures and below ground structures (specialist in-house geotechnical expertise is on hand when required). Their caseload is varied, you can expect to investigate problems caused by materials, design, ground conditions, construction methodology, external forces, inappropriate use and unforeseen factors. Broad experience is useful, but of most value is intellect and the ability to think laterally.
You will need to be a chartered engineer with a strong academic background who has five or more years consulting engineering experience and well developed communication skills. There will be regular contact with clients, third parties and site visits. Training will be provided in how to conduct your investigations and present your findings. The ability to write reports that can withstand legal /peer group scrutiny, whilst being comprehendible and clear to non-technical professionals is an art you will learn to master. Good written skills are pre-requisite.
